What other people think of you is none of your business. One sentence. One sentence said to me years ago that fell on deaf ears. I should have listened. It was said to me again recently (by my lovely life coach) and this time I heard it. I really heard it.
I have spent my entire life worrying about what others might think and how they might be judging me. Are my ideas silly, do I come across like an idiot, do people think I don’t know what I’m talking about, I doubt myself. I worry. I worry way to much what other people might be thinking. All this negative self talk get’s me no where.
But here’s the thing, people are self absorbed. I’m not saying they aren’t caring, wonderful people. But they are much more likely to be doubting and worrying about what they say and do. They don’t have time to spend their life worrying about you and how you are or what you say. They are way more concerned about themselves.
It is so, so important to start doing your thing and being confident about it. What they think really is none of your concern. Lately I have started to use the one sentence in all aspects of my life, and it has helped me a great deal.
For example, recently I started a little side business, the planning, the setup and the hardest part for me the networking. This has a been a long term dream (read 20 years!). No longer do I walk into a room thinking what if they think I’m an idiot. I now stroll in confidently to talk, ask questions, say what I do, why I do it and how I do it.
So I just have to say it again What other people think of you is none of your business
I hope you hear it too.
